Continuing progress
On Monday I presented my mid-term talk from last year along with other REThink participants from prior years. This helped give some guidance to the new participants. The morning session was concluded with a talk by one of the student mentors who is preparing a talk for a conference. I checked in with the mentors and spent the remaining day step debugging the program. This concluded into Tuesday when I had a breakthrough at the end of the day and realized that I was using the program incorrectly and that it was failing in a non-obvious way. I prepared a slideshow for Dr. Zarella and Dr. Breen which I shared at their lab meeting on Wednesday morning. I spent the remaining day on Wednesday evaluating ways to run the program more quickly. The current estimate is that with the original dataset the program should take roughly three days to run. On Thursday, I set up a computer that could be run in a dedicated and uninterrupted manner to complete the program training and processing. I also completed slides for my midterm presentation. On Friday we presented our midterm work and I spent the rest of the afternoon preparing a cloud sever to run the program with on-demand resources. I also investigated using Drexel's high performance computing cluster to help speed up the work.
